Angara advocates for Mindspark as key venue for STEM exposure trips

Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized on Tuesday that Mindspark, the country’s largest science museum, should be a primary destination for student exposure trips, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

This statement followed the grand opening of the 9,000-square meter facility at Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Parañaque City, led by the Department of Education (DepEd).

In his remarks, Angara highlighted that Mindspark has the potential to transform students’ curiosity into innovation, fostering creativity and skills beyond the traditional classroom environment. “Volcano experiments? Rocket launches? AI (Artificial Intelligence)-powered robotics? Lahat ‘yan hindi na imposible dito sa (These are all possible in) Mindspark,” he stated.

He further noted, “Sa mga museo na kagaya nito, binibigyan natin ang kabataan ng direksyon tungo sa pagbabago, at ng paraan para mag-innovate hindi lang sa paaralan kundi sa komunidad (In museums like this, we are giving the youth the direction towards change, and ways to innovate not only in schools but also in the community).”

Mindspark features 100 interactive science exhibits across 30 STEM-themed rooms, including attractions such as a giant walkthrough human heart, a real-life hospital laboratory, massive anatomy displays, and an insect life cycle in motion. Additionally, visitors can explore interactive features related to bubble science, robotics, artificial intelligence, fire safety, engineering design, and gemology.

Angara stressed that Mindspark will provide essential support for students who are curious about the “whys and the hows” of the world around them. “A curious mind is the seed of a promising tomorrow. Our children hold the key to solving the emerging challenges of the future, armed with creativity, resilience, and the power of their innovative thinking,” he remarked.

The science facility, managed by the Philippine Amusement and Entertainment Corp., is now open to the public, offering tour programs for schools and other organizations.
