The northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, is expected to bring rain showers across Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Friday.

Pagasa reported that cloudy skies with rain are forecast over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands, while Mainland Cagayan, Isabela, and Apayao will see light rain.

Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain due to the amihan.

A gale warning has been raised over Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur (Sinait, Cabugao, San Juan), and the northern coast of Cagayan, including the Babuyan Islands.

“In the areas we mentioned, small vessels are still not advised to venture out because the sea conditions there will be rough to very rough,” Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia said.

Pagasa reminded residents and local authorities to take precautions against possible flash floods and landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas.

Meanwhile, easterly winds from the Pacific Ocean are expected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao.

No tropical cyclones or low-pressure areas are currently being monitored within or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Residents are advised to monitor official weather updates and follow safety guidelines from local disaster risk reduction offices.

Maritime authorities warned fishermen and small vessel operators to avoid venturing out in areas under gale warning until conditions improve.
