Industry monitoring for the full trading week indicates that diesel prices could fall by P8 to P9 per liter by Tuesday, marking the first major rollback of the year and easing concerns over the impact of volatile global oil markets on everyday expenses. Kerosene prices are also projected to decline by P3 to P5 per liter, while gasoline may see only a minimal adjustment of up to P1 per liter.
The anticipated reduction comes as tensions in the Middle East show signs of easing following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, more than a month after the conflict erupted on February 28. The cooling of geopolitical risks has helped soften oil market sentiment, paving the way for lower domestic pump prices.
For Filipino consumers, especially public utility drivers, delivery operators, and businesses heavily dependent on fuel, the projected diesel rollback could bring immediate breathing room. Lower diesel prices are expected to help trim transport and logistics costs, which in turn could ease pressure on household budgets and support efforts to keep the prices of basic goods stable.
Meanwhile, the Department of Energy said Malacañang may also decide next week on whether to suspend or reduce fuel excise taxes, a move that could provide an added buffer should global market conditions shift again.
