Thirty-three athletes have been invited to participate in a series of tryouts to determine the final lineup of Alas Pilipinas Women for three major tournaments in 2025. The selected players will represent the Philippines in the AVC Challenge Cup, the SEA V.League, and the SEA Games.
“These are quality young players from the professional league PVL, from abroad, and schools,” said Ramon Suzara, president of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and executive vice president of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). “This is a wish list of players for the national team that I fervently want to see competing for our flag and country.”
Brazilian head coach Jorge Edson Sauza de Brito will oversee the tryouts, with dates and venues to be announced later.
The 2025 schedule includes the 6th AVC Challenge Cup for Women from June 8 to 15, the 5th Southeast Asian V.League with Week 1 from July 25 to 27 and Week 2 from August 1 to 3, and the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand from December 7 to 19.
“We are very confident to tap the best players in every position,” De Brito said. “The Philippines has a lot of great talents from the collegiate ranks up to the pro ranks, and we are improving ever since I arrived. We just need to work hard to let the players grow.”
The tryout list includes setters Angelique Alba, Tia Andaya, Julia Coronel, Jia de Guzman, and Camila Lamina. Libero invitees are Dawn Catindig, Justine Jazareno, Jennifer Nierva, and US-based Hannah Stires.
Opposite spikers invited are Tots Carlos, Shevana Laput, Faith Nisperos, Alyssa Solomon, and Eli Soyud. Outside hitters include Mhicaela Belen, Evangeline Alinsug, Angel Canino, Vanessa Gandler, Eya Laure, Alleiah Malaluan, Arah Panique, Glaudine Troncoso, Brooke Van Sickle, Shaina Nitura, and Savannah Davidson.
Middle blockers on the list are Thea Gagate, Clarisse Loresco, Madeleine Madayag, Del Palomata, Jeanette Panaga, Jana Philips, Amie Provido, and Fifi Sharma.
The tryouts will determine the final lineup that will compete in these prestigious international events.
