At least police chiefs in Metro Manila were removed from their posts after refusing to comply with the five-minute response time policy implemented by newly appointed Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.
Torre said in an interview that officers were refusing to comply with the policy.
“Pina-relieve ko ang mga chiefs of police na yun sapagkat hindi sila maka-cope up or ayaw nilang mag-cope up sa standards,” PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.
“I’ve explained to them, we will not be able…to deliver on the 5-minute response promise, as directed by the President, hindi namin mako-comply ito, kung ganoon ang reaksyon ng mga opisyal na yun,” he added.
Police personnel were deployed in the cities of Navotas, Caloocan, Valenzuela, Mandaluyong, Marikina, San Juan, Parañaque and Makati, according to PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Jean Fajardo.
Meanwhile, Torre said additional police officials, including some provincial directors in Central Visayas, are likely to be relieved of their duties.
He also noted that replacements for those removed are already lined up.
The PNP earlier stated that the 5-Minute Response Time Strategy marks a significant shift from conventional precinct-focused policing, aiming to create a more mobile, proactive, and community-oriented police presence.
The initiative is also designed to guarantee that requests for assistance are addressed promptly, professionally, and around the clock.
