Phuket, Thailand – The 3rd ASEAN Battery Technology Conference (ABTC) wrapped up on August 29, 2025, setting a new benchmark for collaboration, innovation, and sustainability in the region’s clean energy transition. Hosted in the eco-conscious setting of Phuket, the three-day event gathered more than 340 participants, from government leaders and global researchers to major industry players.
Organized by the Thailand Energy Storage Technology Association (TESTA) with the support of five leading regional partners, the conference put a spotlight on the future of battery safety, financing, and large-scale deployment.
High-profile speakers included Nobel Laureate Professor Stanley Whittingham, Professor Shirley Meng of the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory, and representatives from Indonesia’s NCSTT, NanoMalaysia, and the Singapore Battery Consortium.
Panels and plenary talks tackled breakthroughs in next-generation technologies, strategies to strengthen ASEAN’s battery supply chain, and new investment models to accelerate clean mobility. Exhibits and networking sessions further fueled opportunities for cross-border partnerships.
Dr. Pimpa Limthongkul, co-founder and president of TESTA, emphasized ASEAN’s growing leadership role: “This year’s conference has shown that we are no longer just adopting new technology. We are shaping its direction and defining how the world moves toward sustainable energy.”
Dr. Sing Yang Chiam of the Singapore Battery Consortium echoed the importance of safety: “Performance must always go hand in hand with protection. ASEAN is proving it can lead collaborative efforts on battery safety that set global standards.”

Looking ahead, ABTC 2026 will take place in Penang, where Malaysia’s emerging role in the global supply chain promises an even stronger platform for advancing energy storage and clean mobility solutions.
