DAVAO CITY – Aiming to bridge the digital divide, the Department of Information and Communications Technology-Davao Region (DICT-11) shared Friday that a total of 1,548 SIM (subscriber identity module) cards have been distributed to schools in Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental.

On Aug. 19, DICT-Davao del Sur distributed 617 SIM cards to Jose F. Lanoza Elementary School (197) and Bulacan Elementary School (420) in Malalag town.

“Beyond connectivity, parents were also given an orientation on Cybersecurity for Digital Parenting, promoting safer and more responsible digital practices for children and families,” the agency said.

On Aug. 12 to 14, DICT Davao Occidental provided connectivity kits to key educational institutions.

Alongside the distribution drive, the DICT team facilitated immediate on-site SIM card registration, ensuring that beneficiaries could activate and seamlessly use their connectivity kits right away.

The 931 beneficiaries were New Argao National High School (160), Jack Harvey Elementary School (88), Pedro Geverola Lucero Elementary School (289), and Tingolo Integrated School (394).

To support digital learning, each SIM card includes a 25gb monthly data allocation.

It provides students and educators with reliable access to online learning platforms, digital research materials and skill-development tools. (PNA)
