MANILA – Capacity remains low for the Visayas grid, resulting in another yellow alert from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), in an advisory, said capacity in the Visayas grid is around 2,524 megawatts (MW), while peak demand is expected to reach 2,449MW.

It attributed the yellow alert, which is raised whenever the operating margin is short against contingency requirements, to the forced outage of Unit 3 of the Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) and Unit 1 of the Kepco SPC Power Corporation.

It also said imports from the Mindanao grid are limited due to the planned outages of Unit 4 of GNPower Kauswagan Ltd. Co. (GNPK) and Unit 1 of Therma South Inc. (TSI).

NGCP said eight power plants in the Visayas are on forced outage this October alone, while over 20 are unavailable since 2021.

It added that 18 plants are operating on derated capacity, bringing the total reduction in the grid to around 699.2MW
