Xiaomi is taking its electric-vehicle ambitions to a much bigger stage—literally.
The Chinese technology giant has unveiled the Xiaomi SkyNomad Series, a new family-focused SUV lineup that combines seven-seat capacity, a fully flat interior floor, reconfigurable seating and an extended-range powertrain capable of traveling up to 1,705 kilometers.
Introduced during the Xiaomi SkyNomad Technology Launch Event in Beijing, the new series is the first to use the company’s Xiaomi Kunlun technical architecture, which was designed around one major priority: maximizing interior space before shaping the rest of the vehicle.
Two models will initially be offered: the Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 Max, a flagship seven-seat extended-range SUV priced at RMB 299,900, and the SkyNomad N70 Max, a five-seat all-wheel-drive model priced at RMB 259,900.
An SUV Outside, an MPV Inside
Unlike conventional SUVs that are reportedly designed around styling, powertrain and chassis requirements before cabin space is considered, Xiaomi says the Kunlun platform reverses the process.
The result is a boxier, upright SUV body designed to deliver what the company describes as MPV-level interior room.
The massive N90 Max measures 5,285 millimeters long, nearly two meters wide and rides on a 3,080-mm wheelbase. The slightly smaller N70 Max stretches 4,960 mm and has a 2,950-mm wheelbase.
Despite its size, Xiaomi says more than 140 aerodynamic improvements helped the N90 Max achieve a drag coefficient of 0.255.
Smart electric doors can be operated by touch or voice, while rear doors open to nearly 90 degrees for easier access. An AI-powered anti-collision system can detect nearby obstacles and warn passengers—or resist the door from opening—to prevent accidents.
An optional electric side step, rated to support up to 300 kilograms per side, is also available for children, older passengers and those who may have difficulty entering the high-riding SUV.
A Cabin That Can Transform in Seconds
The biggest selling point, however, may be what happens inside.
The SkyNomad features an almost completely flat cabin floor stretching from the front seats to the cargo area. Xiaomi says the surface spans nearly three meters, with a maximum usable flat area exceeding 4.4 square meters.
Extra-long seat rails allow the second- and third-row seats to slide by as much as 900 mm, giving owners the freedom to create multiple cabin layouts.
The N90 Max can be transformed into a face-to-face business lounge, a children’s play area, a four-seat executive cabin, a mobile workspace or even an overnight sleeping space.
With the rear seats folded, the cabin can create a bed measuring up to 2,300 mm long—large enough for passengers to stretch out during road trips or camping adventures.
Its maximum cargo capacity reaches 1,831 liters, which Xiaomi claims is enough to hold up to 24 20-inch suitcases in its ultimate storage configuration.
Even with all seven seats occupied, the vehicle can reportedly carry seven 20-inch suitcases—one for every passenger.
The cabin also includes 34 storage compartments, up to 12 accessory ports, a sliding center console, 50-watt wireless charging and a nine-liter refrigerator that can hold as many as ten beverage cans.
Zero-Gravity Seats and a ‘Mobile Living Room’
Xiaomi has filled the SkyNomad cabin with premium materials and comfort-focused features.
Up to 95 percent of frequently touched surfaces in the N90 Series are soft-wrapped, covering approximately 32 square meters of interior space. The materials carry OEKO-TEX certification and are designed to meet infant-grade safety requirements.
Front seats come with heating, ventilation and 16-point massage functions. Depending on the configuration, the N90 Max can offer up to four zero-gravity seats across the first two rows.
Optional rotating front seats can face the rear passengers, turning the vehicle into what Xiaomi describes as a mobile lounge for conversations, family activities or rest stops.
Buyers can choose between Cream Beige and Mocha Brown interiors, while the exterior color palette includes Mountain Green, Valley Blue and Volcanic Gray.
Serious Safety Claims for Every Row
Xiaomi says the SkyNomad was built around its Kunlun Total Safety system, covering the body structure, batteries, airbags, sensors and emergency escape features.
High-strength steel and aluminum reportedly make up 90.4 percent of the N90 Max’s body. Ultra-high-strength steel is used in critical areas, including the roof structure, pillars and door protection beams.
The N90 Max comes standard with 12 airbags, including protection for third-row occupants. Nine collision sensors are designed to improve impact detection and airbag deployment accuracy.
The SUV also has triple-redundant door-release mechanisms that allow passengers to open the doors mechanically even if electrical power is lost.
Dual emergency pull handles are installed on the tailgate, giving third-row passengers another possible exit route.
The N90 Max is also rated for emergency wading through water up to 750 mm deep. Xiaomi says the cabin can resist significant water intrusion for up to three minutes in an accidental submersion scenario.
Battery Built to Survive Extreme Conditions
At the center of the SkyNomad is Xiaomi’s new Armor Scale Battery, developed through a battery research team of more than 230 people.
The battery incorporates 18 layers of structural protection and up to 16 layers of thermal protection. Xiaomi claims it can remain free from leakage, fire or explosion following a 500-joule underbody impact.
The company also says its improved cell design reduces battery degradation by 50 percent and delivers twice the cycle life required under the relevant Chinese national standard.
AI-Powered Cabin With Six Connected Screens
The SkyNomad’s electronics run on a four-in-one domain controller powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform.
The system supports dual 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 7 and six connected cabin displays. Passengers can move content between screens, while a 25-speaker audio system provides entertainment throughout the vehicle.
A 6.9-inch rear control screen allows back-seat passengers to operate cabin functions and view live footage from the exterior security cameras.
Xiaomi’s onboard AI assistant, Hyper XiaoAi, can automatically adjust seats, climate controls and interior lighting through voice commands. The system can switch among 11 predefined cabin arrangements based on what passengers ask it to do.
The SkyNomad also comes with high-end driver-assistance hardware, including forward-facing LiDAR, 4D millimeter-wave radar and anti-glare cameras.
Up to 505 KM on Electricity Alone
The SkyNomad uses a large-battery extended-range electric-vehicle system, combining electric propulsion with a gasoline-powered range extender.
Battery capacities range from 52 kWh to 76 kWh.
Under China’s CLTC testing cycle, the N70 Max can travel up to 505 km using electric power alone, while the larger N90 Max can achieve as much as 464 km.
With a full battery and fuel tank, the N90 Max delivers a claimed combined range of 1,705 km, potentially allowing owners to travel long distances with fewer charging or fuel stops.
Its depleted-battery fuel consumption can fall as low as 6.26 liters per 100 km, according to Xiaomi.
The range extender is designed to operate quietly through vibration isolation and active noise cancellation. After its initial scheduled servicing, maintenance is required only every three years or 30,000 km.
Big SUV, Surprisingly Tight Turning Circle
Despite being almost 5.3 meters long, the N90 Max has a turning radius of only 5.95 meters.
Its dual-motor all-wheel-drive system produces up to 310 kW, while a double-wishbone front suspension and H-arm multi-link rear setup aim to balance comfort and handling.
Five-stage adjustable air suspension and continuously variable dampers are also included.
Xiaomi says the vehicle can stop from 100 km/h in 38.57 meters, with consistent braking performance across ten consecutive emergency stops.
Xiaomi Wants to Redefine the Family Car
With the SkyNomad, Xiaomi is no longer simply trying to build another high-tech SUV.
It is attempting to create a vehicle that can function as a family hauler, executive lounge, mobile office, camping shelter, bedroom and cargo van—all in one package.
Pre-orders opened in China on July 30, with a RMB 1,000 deposit securing priority production scheduling. Buyers who finalize their orders will also receive a complimentary in-car dual-cupholder table valued at RMB 999.
The SkyNomad’s international availability has not yet been detailed, but the launch makes Xiaomi’s broader automotive ambitions increasingly clear: the smartphone giant does not merely want a place in the EV market—it wants to reshape what buyers expect from the family SUV.
