Xiaomi expands EV lineup with SkyNomad, a smart SUV designed to transform into a living space

Xiaomi EV has unveiled SkyNomad (小米澎程), its second electric vehicle series, introducing a new generation of intelligent SUVs designed to seamlessly adapt to the evolving lifestyles of today’s drivers and families.

While the Xiaomi SU7 and Xiaomi YU7 series were created as performance-oriented “driver’s cars,” the new SkyNomad lineup takes a different approach—placing equal emphasis on every passenger by transforming the cabin into a versatile, intelligent living space. The launch marks another milestone in Xiaomi EV’s strategy to broaden its portfolio and redefine how people experience mobility.

A new vision for the intelligent SUV
As China’s automotive market continues to evolve, spacious six- and seven-seat SUVs have become increasingly common. Xiaomi believes the next frontier is no longer about adding more room or premium features—it is about creating an environment where people genuinely feel comfortable, productive, and connected.

The company developed SkyNomad around the idea that today’s vehicles serve multiple roles throughout the day. Beyond commuting, many owners use their cars as mobile offices, relaxation spaces, family hubs, or even temporary homes during outdoor adventures.

Recognizing these changing needs, Xiaomi began developing the SkyNomad series in early 2023 with a clear objective: build an SUV that adapts to people—not the other way around.

A cabin that transforms with every journey
At the heart of SkyNomad is Xiaomi’s newly developed Kunlun Architecture, an all-new vehicle platform engineered specifically to enable highly reconfigurable interior layouts.

Featuring a flat-floor design and an extended seat-track system, the SUV can effortlessly transition between multiple configurations. Whether transporting passengers, luggage, pets, or converting into a mobile workspace, lounge, or family activity area while parked, the cabin is designed to maximize flexibility without compromising comfort.

The adaptable interior is powered by Xiaomi’s expertise in artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, and its connected smart-device ecosystem—bringing together technologies that have long defined the company’s innovation strategy.

“Our answer was to let intelligence define the space, to build a living interior that moves with you,” said Xiaomi Founder, Chairman, and CEO Lei Jun, describing the vision behind SkyNomad in a post on Weibo.

Designed for people who wear many hats
Rather than targeting a single lifestyle segment, SkyNomad is built for people whose daily routines constantly change—from professionals commuting to work, to parents running family errands, to travelers seeking adventure on weekends.

Xiaomi says the SUV is intended to serve as a flexible companion that effortlessly shifts between work, family, recreation, and everyday mobility, reflecting the realities of modern life.

Expanding Xiaomi’s EV ecosystem
The upcoming launch of the SkyNomad series represents another significant step in Xiaomi EV’s rapid expansion, following the success of its earlier vehicle lineup.

Developed over three and a half years, the Xiaomi SkyNomad Series is scheduled to debut in mainland China soon, with more product details expected to be announced in the coming months.
