A man allegedly using stolen cables to supply electricity illegally to as many as 40 families was arrested in Quezon City on Thursday night, October 15.
Police said the 43-year-old suspect, identified only as “Jon,” was caught allegedly pilfering electricity through an unauthorized connection, commonly known as a “jumper,” in West Riverside, Barangay San Antonio.
Authorities recovered allegedly stolen electrical cables, a hammer, pliers, and two improvised chisels from the suspect.

The Philippine National Police launched the operation after Meralco sought assistance over the theft of cables and other electrical facilities in the area.
Investigators said the suspect allegedly used the stolen cables to create illegal connections supplying electricity to an estimated 30 to 40 families.
The suspect faces charges under Republic Act No. 7832, or the Anti-Electricity Pilferage Act. Authorities said violations could carry imprisonment and fines ranging from P50,000 to P100,000.
Quezon City Police District Acting Director Police Brigadier General Christopher Olazo assured the public that police would continue working with Meralco to curb electricity theft and the stealing of equipment used to deliver power.
Meralco also urged residents to report suspicious activities to help protect communities and maintain safe, reliable electricity service.
“We thank the PNP for its swift response to these cases. The public can count on our continued cooperation with authorities to combat these crimes. We also urge everyone to immediately report electricity theft or illegal connections for everyone’s safety,” said Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga.
