Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva discussed closer bilateral ties and stronger cooperation among developing economies during a phone call on Monday.
China’s Foreign Ministry said Xi expressed Beijing’s readiness to deepen coordination with Brazil in both bilateral and multilateral forums.
Xi also called for continued efforts to strengthen the China-Brazil partnership and sustain cooperation under their shared development agenda.
According to ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning, the Chinese leader urged both countries to help advance BRICS initiatives and expand coordination among members of the Global South.
Xi said closer cooperation could reinforce the influence of developing countries in international affairs and support common economic and political interests.
He also reaffirmed China’s support for Brazil’s sovereignty and independence, while opposing foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs.
Beijing said it viewed Brazil as an important international partner with a significant role in promoting regional and global stability.
China and Brazil are founding members of BRICS, which has expanded in recent years as the group seeks a larger role in global economic and political decision-making.
