A 48-year-old Filipino passenger arriving from Los Angeles was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 after authorities confirmed that she was wanted in two separate criminal cases.

The woman was taken into custody on August 15 during a joint operation involving the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Regional Field Unit 7 and NAIA Police Station 1.

Police said courts in Cebu City had issued warrants against her for kidnapping and serious illegal detention, as well as estafa.

Both warrants carried no recommended bail, according to the Philippine National Police.

Authorities coordinated with the Bureau of Immigration and airline security to implement the warrants upon the passenger’s arrival.

The woman was informed of the reasons for her arrest and of her constitutional rights before being turned over to CIDG-RFU7 for documentation and further legal proceedings.

“Kapag may valid court order, we have a responsibility to act on it. At the same time, we have to make sure that the process is proper, lawful, and respectful of everyone’s rights,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez said.

Police said the arrest highlighted coordination among law enforcement and airport authorities in implementing court-issued warrants.
