The stage is set for another milestone in women’s sports as the Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) launches its 56th season on September 6 at the Makati Coliseum.
This year’s tournament, proudly hosted by Assumption College San Lorenzo (Makati), carries the inspiring theme “Breaking Barriers, Building Legacies”—a call to empower student-athletes and highlight the league’s enduring impact on women’s athletics.
The official launch, held Wednesday at Assumption College San Lorenzo, was led by WNCAA chairperson Vivian Manila alongside prominent school leaders including Sr. Irene Cecille Torres, RA, president of Assumption College San Lorenzo; Angelica Dela Cruz of San Beda College–Alabang; Juanita Alamillo of Centro Escolar University; Bernadette Abrilla, director for student affairs at Assumption College Basic Education; and Gerald Ibuna, team leader for health and physical education.
As the country’s first and only tri-level league for women, the WNCAA continues to expand its influence with member schools such as Centro Escolar University—reigning senior basketball champion for 12 straight years—alongside institutions like Miriam College, De La Salle Zobel, Philippine Women’s University, St. Paul College Pasig, St. Scholastica’s College Manila, University of Asia & the Pacific, University of Makati, and University of Santo Tomas–Angelicum, among others.
Across the season, athletes will battle for glory in basketball, volleyball, futsal, badminton, swimming, taekwondo, poomsae, table tennis, tennis, chess, cheer dance/cheerleading, street dance, and 3×3 basketball (midgets division).
More than just a showcase of skill, the WNCAA’s 56th season promises to be a celebration of legacy, resilience, and the future of women’s sports in the Philippines.
