Several wildfires broke out in parts of Palermo, Sicily, prompting aerial and ground firefighting operations, Italian media reported.

Fires were reported in areas surrounding the Sicilian capital, including Montelepre, Roccapalumba, Castronovo di Sicilia, and Prizzi, according to Italian news agency ANSA.

Authorities responded to a blaze in the Sagana area of Montelepre that started Friday evening and continued into Saturday.

In Roccapalumba, fires affected around 30 hectares of land across the Ina Casa, Timpi, and Borgo Manganaro areas, based on initial reports.

Helicopters and Canadair firefighting aircraft were deployed to support firefighters, forestry personnel, and civil protection teams battling the flames.

Emergency responders also worked to contain fires in Castronovo di Sicilia’s Filici area and near the Manganaro junction in Prizzi.

Authorities continued monitoring the affected areas as firefighting teams carried out operations to prevent further spread of the wildfires.

The cause of the fires had not been immediately reported.
