Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien Long An bounced back from a first-set loss to defeat Saipa Tehran, 22-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-15, in the AVC Women’s Champions League on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena.
Vi Thi Nhu Quynh led the Vietnamese squad with 21 points built on 16 spikes, three blocks, and two aces. The win secured them the No. 2 seed in Pool C and a spot in the quarterfinals alongside Baic Motor of China.
“After the first set, I switched T4 (Tran Thi Thanh Thuy) to opposite and moved Quynh to outside hitter. I also brought in Lu Thi Phuong, and that changed our fortunes,” said Binh Dien Long An head coach Thai Quang Lai.
Natalia Lijewska added 15 points for the Vietnamese club, while Thanh Thuy contributed 14 points and 13 excellent digs in the one hour and 50-minute match.
Saipa Tehran bowed out of the tournament with a 0-2 record, despite 11-point efforts from both Mahsa Saberi and Mahsa Kadkhoda.
VTV Binh Dien Long An will next face Pool B leader Kaohsiung Taipower in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
In another match, Zhetysu VC of Kazakhstan dominated Al Naser of Jordan, 25-10, 25-15, 25-11, to sweep Pool A. Karyna Denysova and Yuliia Dymar paced Zhetysu with 11 and nine points, respectively, while Isabela Paquiardi led Al Naser with 11 points. Zhetysu advances to the quarters alongside Creamline.
