Vice President Sara Duterte made a surprise appearance at Wednesday’s Quad Comm hearing while her father former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was being questioned.
While there, she was handed an invitation for her to attend the next hearing of the Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability, which is investigating the misuse of the Office of the Vice President’s confidential funds.
Upon receiving the invitation, she affixed her signature on the copy of the invitation handed to her by the committee’s secretary.
The letter expressed the need of her presence to provide clarity to the committee.
Rep. Joel Chua, who wrote the letter, said he hopes that the vice president gives them the chance to make the investigation easier for everyone.
“Your presence is necessary to provide clarifications on the Office of the Vice President’s budget utilization from your assumption of office in 2022 up to present, including questions on the projects/programs and/or beneficiaries of said projects/programs of your honorable office, regular and confidential funds, and other related matters,” Chua said in the letter.
“As this is a legislative inquiry, we request that all communications, including any reason/s for non-attendance, be submitted in written form for documentation purposes. Please confirm your attendance to ensure proper arrangements for your participation,” he added.
In a previous press conference, she called the committee ‘politically motivated’ and on Wednesday, she said that the committee’s aim is the political persecution of her and her father.
