VP Duterte to attend preliminary hearing on sedition, grave threat raps

Vice President Sara Duterte said Wednesday night she would attend the preliminary probe into the sedition and grave threat complaints filed against her as she made death threats towards Philippine leaders.

“Nagkausap na kami ng aking abogado with regard to sa counter affidavit matapos matanggap namin. Mag-appear ako dahil kailangan ko mag-oath,” Duterte told reporters in Cagayan de Oro City.

The complaint filed by the National Bureau of Investigation arose from a controversial broadcast in which Duterte allegedly stated that she had ordered someone to kill Marcos if she were to be killed first.

Duterte has maintained that her comments were taken out of context, asserting that she was merely expressing frustration with the administration.

She previously confirmed that she has received a summons order from the Office of the Prosecutor.

The threat is also one of the charges in Duterte’s upcoming Senate impeachment trial, set to begin in July.

Duterte has petitioned the Supreme Court to halt the Senate trial, arguing that insufficient time was given for evaluating the impeachment in the House of Representatives, where it was introduced and passed on the same day.
