MANILA – VNS-Laticrete registered its second victory at the expense of 3B, 26-24, 25-13, 25-27, 25-17, in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference on Wednesday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Team captain Jerremy Pedrosa scored 18 points on 16-of-26 attacks, while Jau Umandal registered a triple-double with 16 points, 11 excellent receptions and 10 digs as the Griffins climb to fifth place with a 2-3 slate.

CJ Segui chipped in 13 points, while Djomari Gamotea and Andrie Bakil added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Howard Guerra dished out a conference-best 37 excellent sets alongside six points. He previously recorded 18 excellent sets in the Griffins’ first victory against the Armed Forces of the Philippines last Oct. 27.

“Pinaghandaan po talaga namin ‘to kasi ‘yun nga po, kakagaling lang po namin sa panalo, and naghahabol po kami ng panalo. Gusto po naming kunin ‘yung mga natitirang game natin para makuha namin ‘yung panalo sa conference na ‘to (We really prepared for this because, as you know, we’re coming off a win, and we’re looking to string more victories together. We want to win all our remaining games so we can secure the championship for this conference),” said the 16-year-old Guerra after the one-hour and 44-minute match.

Mohammad Patadon anchored the Griffins’ defense with 26 excellent receptions and 14 digs.

“Happy naman ako sa performance namin. We thought na makukuha namin nung third set, pero mas naging consistent ‘yung kabilang team nung patapos (I’m actually happy with our performance. We thought we’d take the third set, but the other team became more consistent toward the end) so we need to learn from that situation,” VNS-Laticrete head coach Ralph Ocampo said.

Meanwhile, Ralph Cabalsa scored 17 points followed by Harry Ocay with 12 points and Carl Justin Berdal with 11 points as 3B absorbed its second consecutive defeat to slide to a 1-3 record. (PNA)
