MANILA – A yellow alert is up anew for the Visayas grid from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday due to low capacity.

The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) estimated the grid’s available capacity at 2,545 megawatts (MW), below the contingency requirement as peak demand is expected to reach 2,471 MW.

The NGCP said Unit 3 of the Panay Energy Development Corp. and Unit 1 of the Kepco SPC Power Corp. remain on forced outage.

Supply coming from the Mindanao grid also remains limited because of the unplanned outage of FDC Misamis Power Corp. and the scheduled maintenance works for Unit 4 of the GNP Kauswagan and Unit 2 of the Therma South, Inc..

The NGCP said four power plants in the Visayas are on forced outage this month alone while more than 20 have been unavailable since 2021.

It said 18 other power plants are on derated capacities, reducing capacity by 657.1 MW. (Joann Santiago-Villanueva/PNA)
