Vice Ganda throws shade at Cong. Bong Suntay after Anne Curtis remark sparks outrage

A brewing controversy involving Quezon City Representative Bong Suntay and actress Anne Curtis took a fiery turn after comedian Vice Ganda appeared to publicly call out the lawmaker on national television — and viewers quickly caught the shade.

The tension unfolded on the March 6 episode of It’s Showtime, marking Vice Ganda’s return to the noontime program after a recent trip to Japan. While the episode began lightheartedly — with the comedian sharing stories about his travel adventures, including a visit to the viral monkey Punch — the mood shifted when Vice appeared to hint at the controversy that had been dominating social media discussions.

Without directly naming anyone at first, Vice Ganda teased the audience about an issue they were expecting him to address.

“Ano pang gusto niyong sabihin ko? May hinihintay kayong sabihin ko. Hindi ko ibibigay,” he quipped, suggesting viewers were waiting for him to react to a certain scandal.

But the comedian quickly made it clear he wasn’t interested in being used as a distraction.

“Alam ko inaabangan niyo tapos ida-divert niyo sa akin ang attention para mawala sa inyo — no! Hindi ko igi-give,” he added, drawing cheers and laughter from the studio audience.

The moment became even more pointed during the show’s “Laro Laro Pick” segment while hosts were interacting with contestants. When one contestant jokingly attempted to show his undergarment on camera, Vice Ganda abruptly stopped him — and then dropped a remark that instantly sent social media buzzing.

“Pinag-iinit mo ‘yung ulo ko. Napunta sa’yo ‘yung inis ko kay Bong Suntay,” Vice said bluntly.

The jab did not stop there.

“‘Wag mo nang ipakita, baka ma-imagine ka pa niya. Hindi naman ‘yun magso-sorry sa’yo,” the comedian added, an unmistakable reference to the lawmaker’s earlier comments involving Anne Curtis.

Suntay had recently drawn heavy criticism online after publicly making remarks about having an “imagination” about the actress and implying a supposed “desire” for her — statements many netizens labeled inappropriate and disrespectful.

The backlash escalated quickly, prompting the congressman to issue an apology. Suntay later insisted his comment carried “no malice,” claiming it was merely a “fictitious situation” he created and that he had never actually met Curtis in person.

Still, the explanation did little to calm critics, with many accusing the politician of trivializing the controversy.

Vice Ganda’s on-air swipe added fuel to the discussion, with fans praising the comedian for seemingly defending his longtime It’s Showtime co-host. Clips of the moment quickly circulated online, reigniting debate about the boundaries of humor, public accountability, and respect toward women in politics and entertainment.

Anne Curtis herself has remained silent on the issue. The actress had only recently returned to the Philippines after being stranded in the United Arab Emirates with her family amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

But if Vice Ganda’s remarks are any indication, the controversy surrounding Suntay’s comments may be far from over — especially now that one of the country’s most outspoken entertainers has entered the conversation.
