The University of Santo Tomas (UST) extended its perfect run in UAAP Season 88 women’s basketball, overpowering the University of the East (UE) 125-50 at SM Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday. The Growling Tigresses improved to 11-0, earning a playoff for a twice-to-beat advantage.
Kent Pastrana led the charge with a career-best 35 points, 12 rebounds, five steals, two assists, and one block. “I am so happy with my performance today. That’s what I always tell myself that I will give everything I can to the team to win every game and of course, as a leader, I’ll always do my best to help my teammates and coaches,” she said.
Nigerian center Oma Onianwa added 12 points, five rebounds, and contributions on both ends, while Rachelle Ambos, Coi Danganan, and Karylle Sierba scored 11 points each. UST dominated early, taking a 70-29 lead at halftime.
UST assistant coach Ged Austria said, “We’re very proud of what our players did. We just want to carry on our momentum going into the playoffs because as we all know, the one game last weekend was cancelled. We just want to continue and carry on our momentum, especially the next two opponents are Ateneo and NU.”
For UE, Syril Oñate scored 20 points with five rebounds, and Rachel Lacayanga contributed 18 points, five steals, four rebounds, and two assists, as the team suffered its 22nd straight defeat since the first round of Season 87.
UST will face Ateneo on Nov. 15 at SMART Araneta Coliseum, with remaining games against defending champion National University and Far Eastern University.
