WASHINGTON — The United States has warned its citizens in Saudi Arabia of possible attacks on airports and other critical infrastructure amid renewed hostilities involving Yemen’s Houthi group and the kingdom.

In a security advisory issued Monday, the US Mission in Saudi Arabia urged Americans to exercise extreme caution, warning that the security situation could deteriorate rapidly and disrupt commercial air travel.

The mission said Iranian-backed Houthi forces have carried out attacks against Saudi Arabia, including strikes targeting civilian airports and essential infrastructure, resulting in casualties and significant travel disruptions.

US officials cautioned that the hostilities could escalate beyond the areas currently affected, potentially posing broader security risks to travelers and residents.

The advisory specifically warned of possible airport attacks, airspace closures, flight cancellations, and other transportation disruptions.

American citizens planning to travel through Saudi airports were advised to remain vigilant and closely monitor security developments before proceeding with their trips.

The warning comes amid heightened tensions between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition, which supports Yemen’s internationally recognized government.

Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition against the Houthi movement since March 2015, following the group’s seizure of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and other territories in 2014.

The prolonged conflict has fueled regional security concerns, particularly over attacks targeting civilian facilities and transportation infrastructure.

The US Mission reiterated the need for American citizens to exercise caution as the situation remains unpredictable.
