The United States announced more than $3.6 million in humanitarian assistance for Nepal as the country reels from catastrophic flooding that has killed hundreds and left nearly 3,000 people missing.
The aid package includes emergency food assistance for up to 10,000 affected households, according to the US State Department.
Washington said its embassies in Nepal and China were also working to assist American citizens affected by the disaster and support ongoing relief operations.
The flooding was triggered after part of a Himalayan glacier collapsed Wednesday, sending massive volumes of water through communities along the Nepal-Tibet border.
At least 675 people have died in Nepal, while search and rescue operations continued for nearly 3,000 missing people, including foreign tourists.
Around 100 Americans were reportedly among those still unaccounted for.
Nepal’s disaster management agency said 589 foreign nationals were listed as missing in the country.
The Nepal Tourism Board, meanwhile, reported that 261 foreign nationals had been rescued as authorities continued searching affected areas.
