US Embassy in Manila to maintain passport and visa services during federal shutdown

The United States Embassy in Manila announced on Wednesday that scheduled passport and visa services will proceed “as situation permits” amid the ongoing federal government shutdown triggered by a lapse in appropriations.

This policy extends to operations within the United States and at US embassies and consulates worldwide. However, the embassy’s social media accounts will remain inactive until full operations are restored, with the exception of posts related to urgent safety and security matters.

The shutdown stems from US senators’ failure to approve a short-term appropriations bill before the fiscal year concluded on September 30. The proposed measure would have sustained federal funding through November 21.
