Typhoon Marce, which struck Northern Luzon on Thursday, has weakened and is now over the sea east of Ilocos Norte, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Despite weakening, Signal No. 4 remains in effect for Ilocos Norte, northernmost part of Ilocos Sur, northern Abra, northwestern part of Apayao, and northwestern part of mainland Cagayan.
Signal No. 3 covers southern and western parts of the Babuyan Islands, Dalupiri Island, northern and western Cagayan, the rest of Apayao, central Abra, and northern Ilocos Sur.
Signal No. 2 affects southern Batanes, the rest of Babuyan Islands, the rest of mainland Cagayan, northern and western parts of Isabela, the rest of Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, northern Ifugao, the rest of Ilocos Sur, and northern La Union.
Signal No. 1 is in place for the rest of Batanes, the rest of La Union, Pangasinan, the rest of Ifugao, the rest of Benguet, the rest of Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, the northern and central parts of Aurora, northern Nueva Ecija, and northern Zambales.
The typhoon’s center is near Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, moving west-northwest at 10 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 155 kph and gusts up to 215 kph. PAGASA expects Marce to weaken further due to dry air from the northeast.
Over the next 24 hours, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized weather systems, the state weather bureau said.
