Police have arrested two men accused of leaving a gasoline station in Quezon City without paying for fuel, in what authorities described as the second reported “gas-and-run” case in the city since last month.
The Quezon City Police District said the suspects, identified only by the aliases “Tyron” and “Ricky,” were taken into custody Monday night at their homes in Rodriguez, Rizal. Their arrest came just hours after a white Toyota Vios allegedly sped away from a gasoline station along Payatas Road without settling a P1,500 fuel bill.
Investigators traced the vehicle through Land Transportation Office records, which led them to a woman in Taguig City who told police she had sold the car in 2021 to a man named Christian, a resident of Rodriguez, Rizal.
Police said Christian later told investigators that he had lent the vehicle to his friend, Tyron.
Authorities are still searching for a third suspect, identified only by the alias “Botchoy,” who is believed to be linked to the incident. Police have not yet disclosed the specific participation of each suspect or how the three are connected.
The QCPD said Tyron had previously been arrested in connection with a serious physical injuries case involving a gasoline station incident in Rodriguez, Rizal, in February 2017. Botchoy, meanwhile, was reported to have prior cases involving drug charges in July 2017 and frustrated murder in February 2020.
Police said the two arrested men are expected to face estafa charges and will be referred to the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings.
The latest case follows a similar incident reported last month, when a 27-year-old transport network vehicle service driver allegedly drove off after taking more than P5,000 worth of fuel from a gasoline station in Barangay Apolonio Samson, Quezon City.
