Two Chinese nationals were apprehended in Parañaque City for illegally practicing medicine, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) reported on Wednesday.

CIDG chief Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III stated that authorities arrested the suspects, identified as Huan and Jian, during a raid at the Imperial Plaza Residence in Barangay Tambo on Tuesday. They were found in violation of Republic Act (RA) 3720, as amended by RA 9711 (The Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009), and RA 2382 (The Medical Act of 1959).

The suspects were also accused of manufacturing, selling, or distributing adulterated or misbranded food, drugs, medical devices, or cosmetics.

During the operation, law enforcement officers confiscated a significant number of medical supplies, including boxes of assorted medicines and drugs, surgical instruments, an infusion alarm, and a laptop used for an Ultrasound Diagnostic System. Also seized were notebooks detailing medical procedures and Chinese prescription receipts.

Authorities revealed that the suspects lacked the necessary licenses and permits to practice medicine, dispense medical products, or operate a medical facility in the country.

Maj. Gen. Torre emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding public health by enforcing strict regulations on health products and medical practices.

“The State upholds the right to health of the Filipino people by ensuring an effective regulatory system for health products, and by preventing unauthorized medical activities that could endanger public safety,” Torre stated.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the full extent of the suspects’ operations.
