Türkiye had strongly denounced a missile strike carried out by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group against the southern part of Saudi Arabia, describing the attack as a violation of the kingdom’s sovereignty.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry said the assault had threatened regional peace and security, while expressing full support for Saudi Arabia amid the incident.
The ministry had urged all parties involved to avoid actions that could intensify tensions in the region, stressing the need for restraint to prevent further escalation.
The statement came after the Houthis announced that they had launched a ballistic missile and drone operation targeting Abha International Airport in southern Saudi Arabia.
Saudi-led coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki had said the country’s air defense systems were activated after detecting the threat from the missiles fired by the Houthi forces.
The latest attack had added to concerns over rising security risks in the region, where cross-border strikes linked to the Yemen conflict have continued to raise international alarm.
Türkiye had reiterated its position that attacks threatening territorial integrity and regional stability must be avoided, as it called for steps to reduce tensions among the involved parties.
The Saudi-led coalition had continued monitoring security developments following the reported missile launch, while authorities assessed the impact of the attempted strike.
