US President Donald Trump on Monday said efforts to reach an agreement with Iran were moving forward, but cautioned that key energy facilities could be targeted if negotiations collapse.

He indicated that discussions were ongoing and described them as serious, while expressing confidence that an agreement could still be reached.

Trump also warned that failure to secure a deal, along with continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, could prompt military action against Iran’s energy infrastructure.

In a social media post, he said that if no agreement is reached soon, the United States could carry out strikes that would destroy Iran’s power plants, oil facilities, and other critical installations.

Despite the remarks, he later said that Tehran appeared willing to settle and suggested the situation was developing favorably from Washington’s perspective.

Iranian officials, however, said there had been no direct negotiations with the United States, noting that communication had been limited to messages relayed through intermediaries.

Countries such as Pakistan, Türkiye, and Egypt were reported to have facilitated indirect contacts between the two sides.

The developments came amid ongoing hostilities following air strikes launched by the United States and Israel in late February, which triggered retaliatory attacks from Iran and heightened tensions across the region.
