U.S. President Donald Trump called on Japan and other nations to send naval forces to the Strait of Hormuz amid rising tensions with Iran.
Trump said the waterway, a crucial route for Middle East oil shipments, has been partially blocked due to drone attacks attributed to Iran.
He added that countries affected by the closure of the strait will be sending warships in coordination with the United States to ensure the passage remains open and secure.
Trump claimed that the U.S. has already destroyed 100 percent of Iran’s military capability.
He warned that Tehran could still deploy drones, lay mines, or launch short-range missiles in the strategic waterway.
The president expressed hope that China, France, Japan, South Korea, Britain, and other affected nations would contribute ships to the area.
He said the goal is to make the Strait of Hormuz no longer a threat to international shipping and global energy supplies.
