Trump optimistic on Thailand-Cambodia border tensions

US President Donald Trump said on Friday he expects Thailand and Cambodia “to be fine” following phone calls with the leaders of both nations amid a recent flare-up in their border conflict.

Thailand earlier this week suspended a US-brokered ceasefire and demanded an apology over alleged new landmine placements by Cambodia, which Cambodia denies. The dispute escalated in July, resulting in five days of fighting that left at least 48 dead and displaced around 300,000 people, before Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim helped broker a ceasefire.

“I spoke to the prime ministers of both countries and they’re doing great. I think they’re going to be fine,” Trump told reporters.

In a separate interview with GB News, Trump said, “I think I settled one today,” referring to world conflicts without giving further details. He also held talks with Malaysia on Friday, a White House official confirmed.
