Pagasa reported on Wednesday morning that a low-pressure system within the Philippine area of responsibility has strengthened into Tropical Depression Ada.

The tropical depression was last tracked 635 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, moving northwest at around 35 kilometers per hour.

Ada is generating sustained winds of 45 kph, with gusts reaching up to 55 kph, the agency said.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.

Signal No. 1 indicates the potential for winds between 39 and 61 kph over the next 36 hours, posing minimal to minor risks to property and life.

Pagasa forecast that Ada will continue its northwestward track over the coming days while gradually intensifying over the Philippine Sea.

The agency warned that the depression may reach tropical storm strength within 24 hours and urged local authorities and residents in affected areas to stay alert and monitor official advisories.
