A deadly landslide rocked Barangay Iruhin West in Tagaytay City on the morning of July 24, 2025, after days of relentless rain. Around 10:00 AM, the heavy downpour triggered a slope failure, sending tons of earth crashing down and toppling a perimeter wall. The wall collapsed onto a nearby construction barracks, burying four workers inside.
The victims, known only by their aliases—Jose, Nonong, Armond, and Mark—are all local residents.
Emergency teams from Tagaytay and neighboring Silang responded swiftly, with local police, firefighters, rescue units, and barangay officials launching a race against time to save lives. One worker was pulled from the rubble alive and immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Another was recovered, but tragically declared dead on the scene. Search and retrieval operations continue for the two others who remain missing.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and urged the public to stay away to ensure the safety and speed of rescue operations.
Even before the landslide, Tagaytay police had ramped up patrols in landslide-prone zones as part of a broader disaster preparedness initiative. This incident underscores the urgent need for heightened vigilance as severe weather continues to batter the region.
