Police arrested three men and recovered several firearms, ammunition and a fragmentation grenade in separate operations in Samar, Iloilo and Capiz from Sept. 1 to 3.
In Samar, authorities arrested a 38-year-old barangay chairman identified only as alias “Naldo” during the implementation of a search warrant in Barangay Mabuhay, Sta. Margarita. Police said they recovered a .45-caliber pistol, two magazines with 13 rounds, and an M16 rifle with a defaced serial number and 20 rounds of 5.56 ammunition.
The suspect allegedly failed to present documents authorizing possession of the .45-caliber pistol. Police said the operation was carried out under a warrant issued by a Calbayog City court and resulted in a complaint for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
In Iloilo, a separate search in Barangay Jibolo, Janiuay, led to the arrest of another man and the seizure of a .45-caliber pistol, a .38 revolver, a homemade 12-gauge shotgun, magazines and ammunition.
A third operation was conducted in Barangay Banica, Roxas City, Capiz, where police arrested another male suspect during a buy-bust operation.
Authorities said they recovered a .45-caliber pistol, a fragmentation grenade, a magazine and ammunition from the Capiz suspect.
Police said the three men were unable to show the required permits or licenses for the firearms, which were also allegedly not registered with the PNP Firearms and Explosives Office.
The arrested suspects and seized items were brought to the appropriate police units for documentation, disposition and legal proceedings.
