Taiwan is emerging as a global leader in smart city development, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to reshape urban living. This vision was showcased at the 12th Smart City Summit and Expo (SCSE) 2025, where Taipei and Kaohsiung unveiled cutting-edge AI-driven initiatives. Taipei, under Mayor Chiang Wan-an’s “T.A.I.P.E.I.” AI Strategy, focuses on smart mobility, logistics, and citizen services, with innovations like the AI-powered Citizen Helpline (199) and an upgraded AI emergency response system. Meanwhile, Kaohsiung’s “Intelligent Lighthouse Program”, led by Deputy Mayor Charles Lin, integrates AI, sustainability, and data security to create an eco-friendly, tech-driven urban model.
With over 2,800 global participants, SCSE 2025 underscores Taiwan’s commitment to AI-driven smart city evolution. Apart from Taipei and Kaohsiung, 10 other Taiwanese cities—including New Taipei, Taoyuan, and Taichung—are showcasing AI and net-zero innovations through dedicated pavilions. Taiwan’s holistic approach, blending AI governance, sustainability, and intercity collaboration, cements its position as a trailblazer in digital urban transformation.
