The Tacloban City Council has declared a state of emergency in the city due to limited access to the San Juanico Bridge, as announced by the Tacloban City Information Office via a Facebook post.
Recognizing the San Juanico Bridge as a crucial route for the movement of goods between Leyte and Samar, this declaration aims to mobilize resources to ensure public safety and security.
The Tacloban City Information Office’s statement highlighted that the restricted access is causing serious concerns to the economic flow and supply chain. The declaration will enable the government to allocate funds and facilitate coordination with national agencies swiftly.
“Under Section 16 of the Local Government Code and relevant national disaster protocols, a state of emergency can be declared when public safety is at risk or when immediate action is needed to respond to a crisis or disruption of essential services,” the statement further cited.
