Taal Volcano showed renewed activity after a brief steam driven eruption and several seismic events were recorded over the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said Wednesday.

The agency said the eruption occurred at around 7:10 p.m. and lasted for about one minute, producing a plume that rose roughly 100 meters from the main crater.

This was the fourth minor eruptive event observed at Taal so far this month, based on monitoring data.

Earlier in April, the volcano generated short explosive events, including two incidents on April 9 and April 10, as well as another activity recorded on April 6.

Phivolcs said such eruptions may either involve steam release from heated water or interactions between water and hot volcanic material, both of which can trigger sudden bursts.

During the same monitoring period, four volcanic earthquakes and two tremors lasting up to several minutes were also detected.

Sulfur dioxide emissions reached about 783 metric tons, while plumes remained at moderate levels and rose to around 100 meters.

Despite the activity, Taal remains under Alert Level 1, indicating low level unrest, although authorities warned that sudden eruptions cannot be ruled out.
