Police in Surigao City reported a 28.57-percent decline in crime from Oct. 1 to Dec. 8.

Authorities logged 19 index crimes during the period, down from 45 in the previous quarter.

The city recorded zero murder and homicide cases this quarter, compared to two murders previously.

Police said incidents of physical injury, rape, and theft also decreased alongside non-index crimes and road accidents.

Theft cases fell sharply to seven this quarter from 16 in the preceding period.

Investigators noted that theft incidents occurred at various hours, including 1 a.m., 8 a.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m., and 10 p.m.

They said the pattern suggests offenders may be taking advantage of early business hours and quieter residential areas late at night.

Police said the trend indicates improved vigilance and coordination among local establishments and communities.

Authorities also pointed to increased patrol visibility and targeted deterrence efforts.

Local police credited the public’s continued support for strengthening peace and order initiatives.
