MANILA, Philippines – Super Typhoon Rosal (international name: Champi) continues to move west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea, maintaining maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its tropical cyclone formation outlook issued at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 22, 2026, PAGASA reported that Rosal was located 585 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan, as of 8 a.m.
The super typhoon was packing gusts of up to 230 kph and moving west-northwestward at 20 kph.
Satellite imagery showed a well-organized circulation east of Northern Luzon, with extensive cloud formations associated with the powerful weather system.
Rosal’s continued movement toward the west-northwest underscores the need for residents of Northern Luzon, particularly coastal and island communities, to closely monitor weather developments.
Residents in potentially affected areas are advised to prepare for possible strong winds, heavy rainfall, and hazardous sea conditions as the cyclone approaches.
The public, particularly fishermen and operators of small sea vessels, should follow the latest tropical cyclone bulletins, wind signal warnings, and marine advisories issued by PAGASA.
