Philippine equities staged a strong rebound on Tuesday as investors returned to the market after the previous day’s decline, while the peso also recovered against the U.S. dollar amid improving global risk sentiment.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) surged by 2.01 percent to close at 6,126.66, reversing Monday’s losses as buying interest swept across all sectors. The broader All Shares index also advanced, rising 1.82 percent to 3,407.61.

Sectoral indices posted gains across the board, led by Mining and Oil which climbed 3.23 percent. Services followed with a 2.88 percent increase, while Financials rose 1.89 percent. Industrial shares gained 1.82 percent, Holding Firms advanced 1.80 percent, and Property edged up 0.97 percent.

Market activity remained robust, with total traded volume reaching 1.4 billion shares valued at PHP7.49 billion. Advancers outpaced decliners by a wide margin, 147 to 58, while 64 stocks ended unchanged.

Luis Limlingan, head of sales at Regina Capital Development Corporation, said the local market mirrored the rally seen in global equities following renewed optimism over geopolitical developments.

“The PSEi rebounded sharply after yesterday’s sell-off, tracking gains in global equities as optimism over potential geopolitical de-escalation improved risk sentiment following US President Donald Trump’s remarks suggesting the conflict may end soon,” Limlingan said.

Despite the rally, he cautioned that investor sentiment remains cautious as markets continue to watch global developments closely.

“Despite the broad-based recovery, the rebound remains fragile as investors stay cautious, with sustained gains likely dependent on continued positive cues from global markets and clearer developments in ongoing geopolitical tensions,” he added.

In the currency market, the peso also strengthened against the greenback, closing at 58.89 to the dollar after weakening to 59.50 in the previous trading session.

The local currency opened the day unchanged at 59.25 and moved within a range of 59.34 to 58.86, with the average exchange rate settling at 59.13.

Trading volume in the foreign exchange market reached USD2.03 billion, lower than the USD2.6 billion recorded in the previous session.
