Senator Loren Legarda will remain on medical leave until Aug. 12 as the Senate continues proceedings in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Senate Secretary Renato Bantug said Tuesday that Legarda’s office informed him of the extension covering Aug. 11 and 12.
The senator had earlier filed medical leave from Aug. 3 to 5, overlapping with scheduled impeachment hearings.
Legarda later confirmed the earlier leave after reports surfaced that she and her son, Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste, had left the country on Aug. 2.
National Bureau of Investigation Director Melvin Matibag said Legarda traveled to France through Hong Kong.
Her absence also comes as the Office of the Ombudsman conducts a preliminary investigation involving Legarda and Leviste over alleged graft and plunder.
The inquiry concerns around Php 10 billion in supposed ghost solar projects linked to the two.
Legarda has denied the allegations, calling them “utterly false and baseless.”
