Star studded live-action adaptation of ‘The Remarried Empress’ coming to Disney+

In a casting announcement that has set the global K-drama and webtoon fandom alight, Disney+ has officially confirmed an ensemble of top Korean actors for the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the smash-hit Naver webtoon, ‘The Remarried Empress.

The webtoon is finally being brought to life by a star-studded lineup. The romantic fantasy drama will feature Shin Min Ah, Ju Ji Hoon, Lee Jong Suk, and Lee Se Young as its leading actors.

The Remarried Empress, which debuted first as a web novel in 2018, has since grown into a massive global sensation. It stands as one of Naver webtoon’s most popular digital comics, boasting translations into over ten languages and accumulating 2.6 billion views, according to Disney+.

The story follows Navier, the ideal empress, who witnesses her stable life collapse after Emperor Sovieshu brings home his mistress, Rashta, and requests a divorce. However, she turns betrayal into an opportunity. Navier not only accepts the divorce but boldly declares her intent to remarry a powerful prince from a rival kingdom, Prince Heinrey, setting off a storm of palace intrigue and emotional warfare as she fights to regain control of her future, love, and royal standing.

Shin Min Ah is set to star as the main lead as Empress Navier, a character defined by her graceful poise and sharp intellect, qualities that have made her a beloved ruler. Known for her diverse roles in hits like Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho and Our Blues.

Lee Jong Suk will play the character of Prince Heinrey, the spirited and enigmatic heir of the Western Kingdom. He is known for his unforgettable performances in W, While You Were Sleeping, and Big Mouth.

Ju Ji Hoon takes on the role of Emperor Sovieshu, the seemingly invincible emperor who betrays Navier, his childhood friend. Ju Ji-hoon is known for his commanding presence and powerful charisma. Some of his works are Princess Hours, Kingdom and Lightshop Keeper.

Rounding out the main cast is Lee Se Young as Rasta, the runaway slave whose innocent look hides deep ambition. With acclaimed performances in The Red Sleeve and Motel California, Lee Se Young dives into one of her most complex roles yet.

The Remarried Empress will be adapted for streaming by Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choongyeol (The Uncanny Counter) and directed by Cho Suwon, the director behind Still 17 and Pinocchio.

The Remarried Empress is scheduled to be released in 2026, exclusively available on Disney+ as part of their growing collection of original high-quality Korean content.
