SSS opens calamity loan for Tino-hit members

Social Security System (SSS) members affected by Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) may now apply for the Calamity Loan Program (CLP) from November 6 to December 5 to help rebuild their lives after the storm’s devastation.

SSS President and CEO Robert Joseph Montes De Claro said the program aims to provide immediate financial relief to workers and families affected by the typhoon.

“We understand how life-changing the devastation brought by Typhoon Tino is to workers and their families in Cebu. Our priority is to provide immediate, accessible support to help them get back on their feet,” De Claro said.

Qualified members must reside or work in areas declared under a state of calamity, have at least 36 monthly contributions (six of which are within the last 12 months), no past-due or restructured loans, and no record of fraud. Applicants must also be below 65 years old and have no final benefit claim.

Applications must be filed online through My.SSS. Under the CLP, members may borrow up to PHP20,000 with a 7% annual interest rate, payable over 24 months.

“Once approved, loan proceeds will be credited directly to their enrolled disbursement account,” De Claro said.

A separate calamity loan window has also been opened for SSS members affected by Tropical Storm Ramil in Roxas City and Sigma, Capiz, open from November 5 to December 4.

“Calamity loans act as (a) bridge for affected members to tide them over and hasten recovery,” De Claro added.

Cebu remains under a state of calamity after Typhoon Tino left 71 of the 114 recorded deaths nationwide, with 127 people still missing and over 200,000 families displaced by flooding and power outages.
