MANILA – The Social Security System (SSS) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) placing about 1,996 job order (JO) and contract of service (COS) workers of the agency under the KaSSSangga Collect Program (KCP).
The agreement was signed at the MMDA headquarters in Pasig City on Tuesday.
Under the MOA, the MMDA becomes an authorized Coverage and Collection Partner of the SSS, collecting the monthly contributions of its JO and COS workers through a salary-deduction scheme and remitting them to the SSS.
The KCP provides social security coverage to JO and COS workers serving local government units, national government agencies, state universities and colleges, and local water districts. These workers are not covered by the Government Service Insurance System because of their employment status.
“As self-employed members of SSS, JO and COS workers will become entitled to receive SSS benefits, such as sickness, maternity, disability, retirement, funeral, and death,” the SSS said.
They may also apply for loan programs, including salary, emergency, and micro loans, and receive additional coverage from the Employees’ Compensation (EC) Program for work-related sickness, disability, or death.
The SSS will assist the MMDA in registering its JO and COS workers as members and in generating the Payment Reference Number needed to remit their contributions.
Regular employees may also continue paying their SSS contributions as voluntary members under the program.
The SSS contribution rate stands at 15 percent. For self-employed members, the lowest monthly contribution is PHP760, consisting of PHP750 for the regular contribution and PHP10 for the EC contribution.
The highest monthly contribution is PHP5,280, composed of PHP3,000 for the regular contribution, PHP30 for the EC contribution, and PHP2,250 for the Mandatory Provident Fund.
