South Korea deployed a rescue team to Nepal on Saturday to find nine workers who went missing after flash floods struck the Himalayan country earlier this week.
Two chartered helicopters were being used to search areas where the workers were believed to have disappeared, according to the Korea Herald.
Contact with the nine was lost after sudden flooding hit Nepal’s Rasuwa region Wednesday morning, South Korea’s Foreign Ministry said.
The missing workers are employees of Korea South-East Power and Doosan Enerbility who had been working on the construction of a hydropower plant in the area.
Ten other Doosan employees stranded at a separate location were rescued earlier.
South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun convened an emergency meeting after the workers were reported missing and ordered authorities to step up efforts to locate them.
Cho also directed the South Korean Embassy in Kathmandu to coordinate with Nepali authorities and assist other South Koreans awaiting rescue.
The search comes amid widespread flash floods and landslides across Nepal and parts of China that have left hundreds dead and thousands missing.
