SN Aboitiz Power Group (SNAP), a leading renewable energy solutions provider, reinforced its commitment to sustainability this September by spotlighting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in a series of Host Communities’ Forums.

Carrying the theme “Redefining Impact: ESG in Community Development,” the gatherings drew more than 200 representatives from local government units (LGUs) and indigenous peoples’ organizations in Benguet, Ifugao, Isabela, and Nueva Vizcaya. The discussions focused on how ESG-driven strategies can strengthen resilience and sustainability in host communities.

Aboitiz Foundation Inc. Chief Operating Officer Mardi Mapa-Suplido delivered the keynote, urging participants to embrace ESG not merely as a corporate buzzword, but as a practical framework for improving governance and community development.

The first leg of the forum was held in Itogon, Benguet on September 3, bringing together around 80 participants. A highlight was SNAP’s update on its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) initiatives, including the 40-MW Binga BESS 1 project—the first of its kind in the Cordillera Administrative Region to secure financial close and move into construction.

SNAP-Magat hosted the succeeding sessions in Ifugao, Isabela, and Nueva Vizcaya on September 16–17, gathering some 150 local leaders. Across all three forums, participants expressed both gratitude for SNAP’s ongoing efforts and optimism for stronger collaborations moving forward.

“By embedding ESG principles into our projects and partnerships, we aim to build not just energy facilities but also stronger, more inclusive, and future-ready communities,” said Joseph Yu, SNAP President and Chief Executive Officer.

Since 2008, SNAP’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) fund has supported more than 1,200 projects worth nearly Php600 million. These initiatives span social infrastructure, indigenous peoples’ development, governance, health, education, livelihood, and the environment.

Now an annual tradition, the Host Communities’ Forum serves as a platform for SNAP to update stakeholders on its operations and projects, while giving communities a stronger voice in shaping CSR programs that directly benefit them.
