A total of 17 applicants were hired on the spot during the government’s Independence Day job fair in Negros Oriental on Thursday, with four securing positions for overseas employment.
Ma. Socorro Mira, head of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), reported that 13 local companies and five overseas manning agencies participated in the event, which offered over 1,000 job positions. The participating companies primarily represented the service and food industries, including hotels, restaurants, and business process outsourcing.
Raizza Phoebe Rubia, public information officer of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the province, noted that by 4 p.m., four jobseekers had been hired for local positions, while four others were offered overseas jobs.
Ardel Trinidad from Sta. Catalina expressed his gratitude for being hired immediately as a “barista” by an overseas company. This job fair marks the second event organized this year by DOLE, PESO, and the city government, following the first fair held on May 1 in celebration of Labor Day.
Mira mentioned that many attendees were fresh graduates or soon-to-be graduates from various colleges and universities in the city.
