Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has called on e-wallet companies to take proactive measures to block online gambling by preventing their platforms from being used for betting transactions.
In a Facebook live session on Tuesday, Cayetano emphasized the responsibility of financial technology firms amid the rising popularity of online gambling platforms, which he noted primarily benefit the operators.
“Konting advice sa mga e-wallets: Tumulong kayo sa bayan. Huwag n’yo nang ipagamit ang inyong platform sa pagsusugal (A bit of advice to e-wallets: Help the country. Don’t let your platforms be used for gambling),” Cayetano stated.
He pointed out that many of these companies are generating substantial profits and have the capacity to self-regulate.
“Huwag n’yo nang hintayin yung guidelines – kayo na kumilos. Tutal most of you, ang laki naman ng kinikita ng negosyo n’yo (Don’t wait for the guidelines —take action yourselves. After all, most of you are making huge profits),” he added.
Cayetano is supporting the proposed Anti-Online Gambling Advertisement Act of 2025, which aims to prohibit gambling promotions across all media. This measure complements the Ban on Online Gambling Act authored by his sister, Senator Pia Cayetano, which he co-authored.
He also committed to utilizing the Senate’s oversight and Blue Ribbon Committee powers to ensure that anti-gambling safeguards are not weakened.
