Senate denies appointment of Lito Lapid as new Blue Ribbon Committee Chair

It is not true that Senator Manuel “Lito” Lapid has been appointed as the new chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, contrary to claims circulating on social media.

Several Facebook reels falsely feature the text “SEN. LITO LAPID NEW CHAIRMAN BLUE RIBBON COMMITTEE” over a video showing Lapid with Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto inside the Senate Session Hall.

A reverse image search revealed that the clip was originally from ABS-CBN News’ live coverage of the Commission on Appointments plenary session on September 24, 2025. In the original video, Lapid was seen taking his oath as a new member of the Commission on Appointments—not as chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee. The misleading posts repurposed the video to make it appear as a recent appointment.

The acting chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee remains Senator Erwin Tulfo, who assumed the role on October 8, 2025, following the resignation of Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.

No official announcement has been made by the Senate regarding Lapid’s appointment as Blue Ribbon Committee chair.

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, officially known as the Committee on Accountability of Public Officers and Investigations, is tasked with investigating allegations of corruption and other misconduct involving public officials.
